Moodtracks App

2021

Description: Moodtracks was developed with the belief that music can impact our mood. To assist those going through difficult times or continuing mental health issues, we made Mood Playlists a core feature of our app. The idea is not simply to mask emotions and force negative feelings to disappear, but rather to help users stabilize their moods so that their lowest lows aren’t so hard to get out of. Moodtracks went through vigorous user testing at every stage - development, napkin sketches, low fidelity, and high fidelity wireframing.

User Personas

User Personas were used to get a sense of the issues found within current music apps on the market. Each individual provided a unique perspective and interest, whether it be in technology, fashion, or current trends, to help us create an original idea as well as work out kinks in our prototype. The main pain points were not being able to easily organize music and the lack of range and diversity within music choices.

Napkin Sketches

These low-fidelity wireframes were created to get a sense of user flow within the app as well as to showcase the basic layout and key functions. Here you can see the core function of the app - mood playlists - and how common features differ from major competitors.

Low-Fidelity Wireframe

These low-fidelity wireframes were created to get a sense of user flow within the app as well as to showcase the basic layout and key functions. Here you can see the core function of the app - mood playlists - and how common features differ from major competitors. User tests were then done to assess any bugs or awkward flows that needed to be changed. Once the kinks were worked out, we were able to build on this skeleton to include better playlist organization as well as the ability to integrate other music platforms into Moodtracks, such as Soundcloud.

I started this project absolutely despising the idea of UI/UX design and ended up absolutely loving it.

High-Fidelity Wireframe

Here you’ll be able to see the full unique flow of Moodtracks, as well as test out six fully prototyped moods in the window below! I was so grateful to take this journey with Moodtracks. I started this project absolutely despising the idea of UI/UX design and ended absolutely loving it! I found that it came easier to me than most aspects of design and can’t wait to pursue it further in my career.

Test the high-fidelity wireframe here.
